Ayr’s junior team, Whitletts Victoria, are giving their backing the town’s senior side, Ayr United to go all the way to the League Cup Final as the Somerset Park side prepare for the biggest Ayrshire derby in history. And Vics’ who play their home matches at Dam Park, are hoping to be at Hampden on the big day to add their support to the Ayr United cause.
Club Secretary, former Ayr United goalkeeper Ally MacLean, revealed that the Club have asked the SJFA for a free Saturday on the 28th January to allow the Vics’ players and officials to be there to back Ayr United.“We’ve have made an official request to the SJFA not to have a match that Saturday to allow players and officials of Whitletts Victoria to attend the match and we hope that our request will be looked on favourably. We’ve made the offer to play a match under floodlights at Dam Park on the Friday evening but that will depend on whether or not there is another team willing to travel to Ayr on a Friday night but we are hopeful that the SJFA will grant our request.
Vics’ boss, Jim Geddes, himself a former Ayr United player, added that the whole town should be out in support of The Honest Men on the day. “This is a massive game, not just for Ayr United but the whole of Ayrshire. Ayr United have done magnificently well in reaching this stage of the competition. You will occasionally get lower division sides pulling off a giant killing act in cup ties but Ayr United have achieved this not once but three times in this cup run by beating SPL’s sides to reach this stage of the competition and who’s to say that they won’t go on and make it four and reach the Final itself. It’s a fantastic achievement and one that deserves the backing of the people of Ayr.”
Geddes added “Many of our players are Ayr supporters and want to be there to support their team on the day. Our Chairman, Colin McTrusty is also a big Ayr United fan and of course the Ayr United fans’ organisation, The Honest Men Trust are also involved with Whitletts Vics, while both Ally and myself have past playing connections with the Club, so there are a number of connections between the two clubs and I’m sure the entire Ayr community will be rooting for The Honest Men on the day”

VICS FIRST-FOOT THE WINTON
Whitletts start 2012 on the road and head to Winton Park, Ardrossan, with the hope of leapfrogging managerless Winton. Winton, who lost manager Derek Frye, to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy at the end of 2011, know that home advantage might not count for much, as there has been little to seperate the teams in their previous two matches this season.
Both teams have served up 10 goals between them this season, and Whitletts will be looking to make amends for their capitulation late on, which saw them lose a 3-1 lead in a match which finished 3-3.
DEFEAT TO ASHFIELD, NO DISGRACE
After two postponements and losing a last minute equaliser at Saracen Park, Whitletts Victoria's Emirate's Scottish Junior Cup run came to an end on a cold December afternoon, when football for many was taking second place to Christmas shopping.
Vics boss Jim Geddes said: "We're disappointed to be out. Over the two games we were the better side by a country mile.
"We were really unlucky with the chances we had, it just wouldn't go in for us. If we'd been five up at half-time it wouldn't have been an injustice.
"We lost a bad first goal but came back well and Steven Douglas didn't have a save to make all day. It's probably the easiest game he's ever had.
"I'm the worst loser in the world, but I went in there after the game and told the lads I was so proud of their efforts."
